The Rigdon Cup Contest
Texas District Student Ministry of the Year
A contest created to help facilitate revival across the district by encouraging apostolic student ministries to engage their students in personal evangelism and Sheaves for Christ fundraising in the local church. Youth groups will be rewarded for excellence in all phases of student ministry: effective ministry in the local church, a positive impact in the local community, participation in youth department programs and events, and sacrificial giving to the SFC offering. One winner will be chosen each year by the Texas Youth Committee and awarded at Holiday Youth Convention. The evaluation will be based on a per capita scale so that every church has an equal opportunity to win the award. The award is named in honor of Rev. Calvin Rigdon, former General Youth President of the UPC. He was a visionary leader in student ministry and was responsible for starting the Sheaves for Christ fundraising program in 1952.
Contestants will be judged in four main areas:
- Participation in sectional, district and national programs and events: sectional events, HYC, Uplink, Youth Camps, AYC-Texas, AYC-GYD, The-Commune-ity Meeting, NAYC, and FUEL.
- Evangelism and community service: Bible studies taught, souls won and creative ministry opportunities in the community.
- Local church involvement: local youth ministry activities (Bible Quizzing, youth choir/band, youth service, outreach)
- Sheaves for Christ Giving: per capita offering amount (a minimum of $100 per young person must be given from your church), percentage of increase in this year's offering, and creativity in raising funds.
Contest winners will receive:
- The Rigdon Cup. The trophy presentation will take place at HYC each year. The winning student ministries' name will be engraved on the cup. The cup stays with the winner for one year. At the next HYC, the previous winner will help present the cup to the new reigning student ministry champion!
- The winning student ministry will have all youth camp tuition covered for their youth that year (actual dollar amount awarded cannot exceed 50% of your church's SFC offering for this year).
- The student pastor/leader will receive a $500 travel voucher.
